Motor Oil

Knowledge

Monitoring your motor oil is a top priority.

Don't rely on your "sensors" to warn you of problems.

Check the oil level on the dipstick regularly.

Watch the technicians while they work on your car.

 AFTER YOUR OIL CHANGE

  • Get your used oil filter back
  • Get a sample of your used oil

WHILE YOU ARE STILL IN THE SHOP'S PARKING LOT

  • Check your oil level right after the oil change
  • Find a clean parking spot in the shop's lot
  • Run your car at idle for 5-10 minutes in that spot
  • Rev up the engine a little bit in neutral (but don't race it hard)
  • Move your car and check the ground for oil leaks
  • After leaving the shop check your oil dip stick a few times to see if the level is dropping

Monitoring your motor oil and other fluids is the most important thing you can do to keep your car running well. I learned the hard way that you can't rely on your vehicle sensors or your service provider. A new mechanic added 4 quarts of oil to my Prius without draining out the old oil. A brand new catalytic converter was ruined (Over $2000) and the engine, while still drive-able, has signs of lowered efficiency and possible damage. The shop doesn't admit fault. It was an "old car" with 246,500 miles on it and would have broken down anyway, so they say. The oil light never came on but after 50 miles of driving, the check engine light came on and it was a P420 catalytic Converter damage code. The shop claims it was an "oil pressure warning" but no such OBD Check Engine code even exists for any car and they couldn't tell me the code number. Well, the shop had to resort to lying to cover up their mistake and avoid responsibility. And there is very little you can do about it "in court". So you need to protect yourself. I didn't check the oil level after they filled it and I didn't watch the mechanic work on my car, as I usually do. I'll never let that happen again. I credit the fact that the engine is still functioning to having used Engine Clean+Flush with every oil change and as an oil top off fluid.

Use Engine Clean+Flush Every Time You Change Your Oil

Top Off Your Oil In Between Changes With Synthesizer 1

Use Cartel Fuel Treatment With Every 3rd or 4th Tank Of Fuel
